Description
"Dam, overflow bridge and valve house date from 1891-1904 by T. and C. Hawksley, engineers, for the Newcastle & Gateshead Water Company. Earth-filled dam with rock-faced parapet. Towards the south end the valve house: single storey, one x 3 bays with tall segment-headed openings; projecting eaves on close-set moulded corbels and hipped roof. At south end overflow bridge with 5 broad shallow segmental arches. Boldly rock-faced invert.
