East end of Cawledge Viaduct
-
Description
"The viaduct, designed by Robert Stephenson and built in 1848-50, is 123m long with seven spans, the highest of 23 metres. It is claimed as 'the world's oldest masonry heritage railway viaduct' but surprisingly is not listed by Historic England. It was partially restored in 2016-20, with further work required. The place of the former westbound track is now taken by a walking and cycle route." Photo by Stephen Craven, 2022. -
