Old Shipley medieval village (Eglingham)

Description
The dwellings formerly situated near the Shipley Smithy (NU 15221820) formed Shipley proper, which seems to have been a place of considerable importance with traditions of a weekly market. The foundations of extensive buildings may still be traced, and a few slabs 'once connected with the sepulture of the dead' are lying about. Centred NU 153 182. A small L-shaped area consisting of rectangular and sub-rectangular enclosures with smaller rectangular enclosures obviously remains of steadings within..... -
