Bridge over the South Tyne, above the Slaggyford caravan site

  • Description

"A convenient layby on the A689 accommodates several cars for the take-out for canoeists and kayakers paddling down from Alston on this pleasant grade 2-3 stretch of the River South Tyne. Paddlers get out river right just above the bridge, and follow the minor road over it to regain their shuttle vehicles. The river flattens out somewhat a short way downstream, although it can still provide some worthwhile sport in higher water for several more kilometres." Photo by Andy Waddington, 2011.
