THE TITHE BARN - Simonburn - List Entry

  • Description

    Probably a former tithe barn incorporating ground-floor byre; now house. Early-mid C18 with C19 alterations, possibly incorporating earlier masonry; converted into a house c.1960. Squared rubble and dressings; graduated stone- flagged roof; stone chimneys. 3 storeys, 3 bays. Tooled quoins. Entrance front: 3 segmental arches with roughly-squared voussoirs on square-plan piers; renewed casements and door inserted into partly-infilled archways; external stone stair at left leads to first-floor boarded door under segmental relieving arch; 2 rows of breathers above.....
