Statue of James Steel, English Street

  • Description

"Statue to James Steel who was editor of the Carlisle Journal, and mayor 1845 and 1846. The statue was erected in 1859 and is a grade 2 listed structure. James Steel seems to be subject to the fate of all worthy men immortalised in a statue, by suffering the indignity of a seagull perching on top of his head." Photo by Oliver Dixon, 2013.
