"The Gables was built in two parts. The part nearest the camera is three bays and is dated to 1825. The large addition to the left is dated 1865. Once the house of the estate agent for the Underley Estate. The disused drive from Underley Hall passes between The Gables and Abbeyfield Lodge [[6263071]] opposite. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1318930 Kirkby Lonsdale is a small town that developed at a crossing of the River Lune. Granted a market charter in 1227, the town at one time had 29 inns and alehouses of which several survive. The town is rich in historic buildings with over 150 listed." Photo by Michael Dibb, 2019. -
