The Old Bridge

  • Description

"This bridge across the River Bela was built in 1763 at a cost of £90. It replaced an earlier bridge 20 yards upstream dating back to 1542. Unitl 1813, the road to Arnside used to cross here following the line of the present day footpath to Dallam Tower, before negotiating a hill and dropping down into Sandside."
