Description
"Townend House was built as a five bay house in 1777 with a sixth bay added later. Another, slightly lower, bay was added in the late 19th century. The southern part of the house is The Courts. The house and the adjoining gate piers are listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1145784 Kirkby Lonsdale is a small town that developed at a crossing of the River Lune. Granted a market charter in 1227, the town at one time had 29 inns and alehouses of which several survive. The town is rich in historic buildings with over 150 listed." Photo by Michael Dibb, 2019. -
