Description
"The Royal Hotel has facades to Main Street and to New Road. The rear part of the building was a 17th century house, Jackson Hall. The main part is mid 18th century and the extension to the right is mid 19th century. Originally the Rose and Crown the name was changed to the Royal Hotel after a visit by Queen Adelaide in 1840. There are a number of original internal features. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1318948 Kirkby Lonsdale is a small town that developed at a crossing of the River Lune. Granted a market charter in 1227, the town at one time had 29 inns and alehouses of which several survive. The town is rich in historic buildings with over 150 listed.
