Walker railway station (site), Tyne & Wear

  • Description

"Opened in 1879 as "Low Walker" by the North Eastern Railway on the Riverside branch (which was a loop line following the north bank of the River Tyne between Byker and Percy Main), this station was renamed "Walker" in 1889. It closed in 1973 and was demolished. View north towards Carville and Percy Main. The camera position is on the former track-bed at the end of two parallel platforms, with the main building having been on the left-hand platform. The whole site is hidden beyond the line of small trees in an industrial complex. For more information, see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/w/walker/index.shtml." Photo by Nigel Thompson, 2024.
