6 & 8, Bigg Market, NE1

  • Description

"No. 6 (on the right, next to [[4474690]]) was built in the mid-late 18th C. It is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1355212 . No. 8 (left), also 18th C, is a larger and slightly grander version of No.6; all the windows have fine glazing bars and panes and, as one would expect from its date of construction, the windows diminish in size up the building - see also [[4472225]]. The east gable has "tumbled-in" brickwork - see [[4497709]]. See also [[2368388]] (taken earlier when the name had a "C" rather than a "K"). The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1319916 . The location of these buildings is shown in [[4474682]] and [[2368376]].] The Buildings of Grainger Town - Nos.113 & 114. See [[4406042]]." Photo by Mike Quinn, 2013.
