-
Description
"The £12.994 million Transport Hub and adjoining Town Square was funded through the Transforming Cities Fund via Transport North East, the North of Tyne Combined Authority, and North Tyneside Council. The new Transport Hub https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7698717 was opened on 2nd September 2023 with the Town Square https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7699421 following quickly thereafter. Subsequently, the Town Square was named, in a special ceremony on the 15th March 2024, as Thomas Brown Square in honour of World War 2 hero and local lad Thomas Brown, the George Medal recipient who retrieved vital Enigma code books from a sinking German U-boat. During the special ceremony this fitting sandstone memorial was unveiled." Photo by Geoff Holland, 2024. -
