East Hedleyhope battery C (East Hedleyhope)

  • Description

Three separate rows of coke ovens within an area in part of mid-19th century industrial sites running east from Hedleyhope Colliery east along the Deerness. The banks of coke ovens are on specially constructed terraces over a probable earlier water meadow. The coke ovens are connected, specifically, with the Hedleyhill Colliery and arranged with former rail lines between the two rows and the most southerly row and the Deerness - further railway junctions joining these to a general rail line with sites elsewhere in the valley.....
