Hyssop Holme Well (Carlisle)

    Situated just off Cavendish Terrace, near Carlisle Cricket Club, this well was restored in 2016. Recorded as a Grade II listed building, see Historic England List ID 1196993, which tells us: "Natural spring well. Dated 1817 with repairs of 1986. ...... This well is recorded in McIntire's 1944 paper "The Holy Wells of Cumberland", page 14. "Stanwix. Hyssop Holme Well, described in Parsons and White, History of Carlisle, 1829, as being a favourite place of resort for the citizens of Carlisle. The spring rises under an arch beneath Stanishaw Bank (J W Brown, Round Carlisle Cross, i, 98)".....
