Inscription revealed at the old Drill Hall

  • Description

"Carlisle College's newly constructed arts complex, due to open September 2014, incorporates the facade of the former Drill Hall. The hall was built in 1874 for the Carlisle Rifle Volunteers, which would explain the "In Defence" motto. The Drill Hall had previously been used as a sports centre, and the arch above the door was boarded over for many years - see photo before redevelopment [[4158641]] ."
