SIPTON BRIDGE OVER SIPTON SIKE - Allerdale - List Entry

Description
Bridge. Early C19. Coursed rubble. Tall round-headed arch, the upper part open and the lower enclosing a lower elliptical tunnel, with paved invert, through which the stream flows. Low transverse walls and buttress-like features in the open upper section of the main arch suggest that some form of metal bracing may be encased in the masonry, and there are 3 iron ties above the arch. Flanking pilasters; simple flat coping to parapet.... -
