Access shaft to lead mine. Worked by the Weardale Lead Company 1923-44. Later worked for fluorspar, still in operation in 1985. Sipton Shaft (Blackett Level) (lead). Access shaft to Blackett level. Also access to Sipton Mine. Worked Esps Vein, worked by the Weardale Lead Co. Ore transported by battery locomotive along Blackett Level and raised at Sipton Shaft which had the last hydraulic hoisting engines in the North Pennines (up to 1946)..... -
