"The Sportsman", Heads Lane, Carlisle - June 2017

  • Description

"Also known as "The Sportsman Inn", this pub dates from at least 1770 when it was called "Guy Earl of Warwick". A 1901 photograph shows it painted to look brick-built, but is otherwise unchanged. Acquired by the State Management Scheme on 11 August 1916 (when owned by Carlisle New Brewery Co Ltd), it was sold to Greenall Whitley on 23 May 1973. Still trading. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services." Photo by The Carlisle Kid, 2017.
