Former tram shed, London Road

  • Description

"This was originally the depot for the City of Carlisle Electric Tramways Company, which started operating services in 1900. Trams in Carlisle were never financially successful, being generally regarded as noisy and slow. They were seen off by competition from motor buses - the last tram ran in November 1931. (information from "Linton Holme" by M.K. Dickens http://www.p3publications.com/PAGE6~1.HTM ). The building curves at the back end, on Lindisfarne Street." Photo by Rose and Trev Clough, 2011.
