"Former Cathedral library, at one time used as a registry, now unoccupied. Dated and inscribed frieze over entrance THOMAS CARLIOL AD 1699 (Thomas Smith, the Bishop of Carlisle). English bond brickwork on red sandstone plinth, the chamfer and all other dressings of calciferous sandstone; V-jointed quoins and eaves cornice. Graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers..."
