Description
"The bus coming in from the right almost wrecked the panorama http://zoom.it/sRk4 Reflections in the glass frontage are of the new Debenhams store extension to the Eldon Square Shopping Centre that stand opposite. The Co-op building can be seen to the right [[1676410]] Low Friar Lane opens on the left under the bridge, for pedestrian access. The Gate is a leisure and entertainment centre with a range of restaurants and cafés, pubs, bars, clubs, a casino and the 12 screen, Empire Cinema. It was opened in November 2002, and replaced the seven storey Newgate House, home to the famous Mayfair club, which played host to many well known bands during its 35 year life http://www.thegatenewcastle.co.uk/about-us/history.aspx There are some photos of the earlier history of the site here http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=55955735&postcount=969" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2010. -
