Edington, shrunken medieval village (Mitford)
-
Description
The remains of the shrunken medieval village of Edington are visible as earthworks to the east of West Edington. The settlement is first documented in the mid-13th century. By the 14th century at least two thirds of the settlement was owned by Newminster Abbey. By the 17th century the whole township had become part of the Middleton Estate. The earthworks that can be seen today are probably the remains of the village as it was in the 18th century.... -
