Bessie Surtees House

    41 Sandhill, Newcastle. 17th century timber-framed house (in the middle) built for local merchants and so-named after Bessie eloped from here with John Scott, the future Lord Eldon, in 1721. To the left is no 44, a timber-framed building given a brick facade in 1741. No 39-40 to the right is also 17th century.
