    "Cast iron post by the B1340, in parish of NEWTON BY THE SEA (ALNWICK District), 100m South of Newtonbarns, in hedge, on East side of road. Patterson twin ovals iron post, erected by an unknown authority in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : ALNWICK / 9 / MILES : : No SUNDERLAND / 5 / MILES : Maker:- : SMITH PATTERSON / & Co Ltd / BLAYDON : Grade II listed.
