Heugh Mill (Birtley)
-
Description
A ruined cornmill stands where the Prestwick Burn and River North Tyne join. The building stands two storeys high and measures about 5m square. There is a wheelpit on the west side and headrace to the north. An old millstone lies outside the building. Old documents show that there was a mill here in 1307, and another mill was recorded here in 1586. It is not clear how old the present ruined building is but the site could date back to medieval times.... -
