Unthank Deserted Village (Alnham)
-
Description
"In the medieval period there used to be a small village at Unthank. It was last referred to in documents in 1726, and must have disappeared sometime after this date. It is possible it may have been demolished to build Collingwood Mansion. It was not uncommon for landowners to move entire villages so they could build a new house on the site. Earthworks can still be seen at the site, but these are probably the remains of the mansion, which was demolished in the late 19th century....." -
