  • Description

"A magnificent 18th C house with a large amount of surviving plasterwork - see [[4503765]], [[4503768]], [[4503771]] and [[4503775]]. The stone front has stone pilasters, window sills and surrounds, and a heavy eaves cornice. The somewhat incongruous shop fronts and central door are later. The former carriage entrance to a rear yard is on the right. The grand domed central staircase hall is decorated with plaster panels and cornices, lit by a tripartite Venetian window. The building is Grade II* listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1024740 . The composer Charles Avison held his first public subscription concert in this building - see [[4503755]]; see also [[1078672]] and [[3743451]]. The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.190. See [[4406042]]." Photo by Mike Quinn, 2013.
