Wallsend Board Schools for juniors and infants built following the Education Act 1870 to a design by architect John Johnstone. It opened in July 1877 as the the Buddle Board Schools - named after mining engineer and entrepreneur John Buddle (1773-1843). Grade II listed, but in rather a sad state. The school closed in 1974 and was the Buddle Arts centre between 1977 and 2008.
