World War I practice trenches, Otterburn Ranges
-
Description
"A network of military trenches on Otterburn Ranges north-east of Silloans. Trenches were dug on land acquired by the War Office in 1912 and used for training purposes during World War I. Now partially silted up, but still more than 2m deep in places. Retain original dog-leg and diamond shape. Probably the best preserved monuments of their type in the country. https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archsearch/record?titleId=954336 The practice trenches are a Scheduled Monument (List Entry Number: 1021025) https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1021025" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2019. -
