Healeyfield Bridge

  • Description

"Situated in the bottom of the narrow valley of Charlton Howl, the horseshoe shaped arch of this early Stanhope and Tyne Railway bridge is unusual. This section of railway was closed in 1859 when Nanny Mayer's Incline was bypassed. A public footpath runs along the trackbed at this point now, turning left up the steep slope of the cutting side just before the bridge is reached." Photo by Adrian Taylor, 2020.
