Second lime kiln at Little Asby

  • Description

"This lime kiln is in a slightly better condition than the other one I photographed a short distance away. Like the other kiln, it stands just outside the boundary of a holiday caravan park which occupies the site of an old limestone quarry. Although the burnt lime was used as a fertiliser on poor ground with acid soils, of which there is none in this locality, it was also used to improve the soils in limestone areas. Other uses included lime mortar, and lime wash for the interior of buildings." Photo by Gordon Hatton, 2019.
