    "Parish school. 1882 by Smith and Son; site given by Robert Dickinson of Shotley House. Dated 1881 and 1897 on porches. Snecked sandstone with ashlar plinth, quoins and dressings; Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. Early English style. One storey, with basement at west on slope of hill; 5 bays. Chamfered 2-centred arches in inner returns of porches, open and with recessed double door and overlight at left, and with diagonally-boarded door at right; front gables of porches have plate-traceried 3-light windows, with dated shields on leaf-stopped strings in gable peaks...."
