Starlight Castle in 1899

  • Description

From a glass plate negative. Substantial remains of the castle were still present at this date. The castle was built as a folly by sir Francis Blake Delaval, allegedly as a bet in 24 hours! It was lived in until around 1828, and sdaly little remains of the building today. Note how the left tower has separated structurally from the main body of the building, probably due to poor foundations. After all it was hurriedly built!
