    "Carved stone post by the A696, in parish of KIRKWHELPINGTON (TYNEDALE District), 400m North of Knowesgate, on grass verge, on West side of road. Newcastle quadrant stone, erected by the Elsdon & Rudwater turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : (To) / Otterburn / 4 Miles / Jedbro / 34 Miles : : (To) / Newcastle / 22 Miles : Carved benchmark and rivet on top. Grade II Listed.
