Detail of Smardale Lime Kiln

  • Description

"The northern 'draw hole' for the kiln shown in [[2341995]]. The kiln was strategically placed with the limestone quarry on one side and the railway adjacent. Lime would be removed from this opening and loaded straight into the railway wagons." Photo by Jim Barton, 2014.
