Former Garsdale Head Youth Hostel, 1982

  • Description

"In 1982 this was a simple grade non-VAT Youth Hostel (£1.85 per night for those aged 21 and over) described in the YHA Handbook as "Once the home of R. A. Scott MacFie, authority on gypsy folk-lore, stands in superb isolation on the 1250ft contour of the northern Pennines". Also "Torch required if arriving after dark"! Sadly the "superb isolation" proved too much and the hostel closed the following year." Photo by Nigel Thompson, 1982.
