Memorial Pathway - Hester Pit Memorial Garden

  • Description

The Memorial Path was created in 2012 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Hartley Colliery Disaster of 1862. Russ Coleman (artist) and Rob Walton (writer) were commissioned to create the memorial pathway, working with local schools and the community to develop ideas for the pathway. The pathway displays the names and ages of all the 204 men and boys who lost their lives in the disaster, and was opened on the 8th of September, 2012.
