Stublick Colliery

  • Description

"An unusually complete set of buildings from an early colliery. The left hand building is the engine house, the lower building would probably have been workshops. The engine house would not have contained a winding engine, but a beam engine for pumping water from the workings. This would have been surrounded by several shafts where the coal would have been raised, probably using animal or human power. " Photo by Alan Murray-Rust, 2004.
