The old mill site Jesmond Dene

  • Description

"The mill was built around 1789-1820 the machine room was built first with various extensions and repairs since. The wall sockets above the pit wheel were probably for beams to support machinery running from the wheel gears. The living areas each had a fireplace at their western end. One occupant of the mill was Patrick Freeman whose name lives on in Paddy Freeman's fields and the nearby Freeman Hospital." Photo by peter maddison, 2010.
