  • Description

"A distance shot of James Paine's noble villa for Abraham Dixon, 1754-56. The central block, which sports an attached Ionic portico, is linked to wings added by John Dobson for William Clark in 1817-18. Grade I listed. The house was rescued from dereliction by the Northern Heritage Trust, for which Reavell & Cahill converted it into flats, 1983-87, while much of the park has been taken over the exotic trouser brigade.
