A level crossing at Spittal

  • Description

"This is an interesting crossing on the busy East Coast Line. Vehicle drivers must stop and ring a bell at the large central gatepost to alert a crossing operator in a cabin out of shot to the left and on the other side of the line. Pedestrians can use the small gate on the right subject to a red light – stop and green light – cross. If the light is not working, the crossing operator must be contacted using the phone provided to the right of the sign." Photo by Walter Baxter, 2009.
