The Spa Well Spittal
-
Description
"This Spa Well dates from the late 18th century. Its stone work was probably constructed by local architect and builder William Wilson. On a map of 1837 it was listed as the Spaw Well. The Well was valuable as a source of iron, lime, magnesia and sulphate of soda. The discovery of the healthy properties of the water was the start of the development of Spittal as a holiday resort."
