Prudhamstone Quarry

Prudhamstone Quarry, was heavily worked from c.1830 to 1914 and closed in the early 1980s. In the past a tramway was built to transport the stone from the quarry just over ½mile south to lime kilns in Fourstones.[1] The former quarry is now woodland (part of Frankham Woods) and water in the quarried area are locally called the 'Blue Lagoon' (on private land). In 2022, permissions to re-open the quarry were granted.[2]
