Old Milestone, Catcleugh

There is an old Milestone in Catcleugh, to the east of Catcleugh Reservoir, in Northumberland. The milestone was erected by the Elsdon and Rudwater Turnpike Trust, probably in the 18th or early 19th century. The milestone is now isolated away from the A68, after the former turnpike road was moved northwards in 1894, during construction of Catcleugh Reservoir.[1] It shows the distance in miles to Newcastle and to Jedburgh. The milestone is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
