Old Ferry, Headland - Middleton

A ferry between Headland and Middleton in Hartlepool operated up to the 1950s. At its peak, the ferry carried thousands of workers between the headland and the shipyards of West Hartlepool. The short ferry journey saved about a miles walk across, what was then, a marshy area known as the 'Slake'.[1]
