Lionheart Station, Alnwick
Alnwick Lionheart station is located on by the Lionheart Enterprise Park on the western edge of Alnwick. It is the western terminus and operational base of the Aln Valley Railway - a heritage railway on the former Alnwick Branch Line, which ran between Alnwick and Alnmouth from 1850 to 1968. The Aln Valley Railway Trust, a charity run by volunteers, aim to redevelop the line as a heritage railway. It wasn't possible to use the old Railway Station (of 1887) in the centre of Alnwick, so this location, close to the original track bed, was chosen to develop a new station (the first station of 1850, was also on the outskirts of Alnwick, though in a different location). The new Lionheart Station was officially opened by the Duke of Northumberland on the 30th October 2013, though trains began running earlier that year. The line was originally extended eastwards along the original track bed, and ten years after the opening of Lionheart, a second station, Greenrigg Halt, was opened.
