Gates and Entrance Screen to Hartford Hall

The entrance screen and gates to Hartford Hall, near Bedlington in Northumberland, date from 1873. The cast and wrought iron gates were made by Coalbrookdale Co., Shropshire. They were originally made for and exhibited at the Vienna Exhibition of 1873. They are notable as one of the most ornate examples of High Victorian ironwork in the North of England and are Grade II* Listed on the National Heritage List for England.[1] However, the gates were removed in 2004 to be repaired, but the work was never completed after the estate went bust in 2009. The gates are currently in storage, under the stewardship of Northumberland County Council.[2]
