Fourstones Station (1836 - 1976)

The station in Fourstones opened in 1836 by the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway. To the east of the station were sidings for the closeby Fourstones Colliery and Lime Works. A tramway/waggonway connected the works to Prudhamstone Quarry to the north. Fourstones Railway station closed to both passengers and goods traffic on the 2nd of January 1967. The station was subsequently demolished, but the Station Master's House, Station Cottages, a railway cottage, and the former Railway Inn (closed in 2015) remain.
