Fourstones Paper Mill

Fourstones Paper Mill is located by the River South Tyne, about 1 mile south-east of the village of Fourstones in Northumberland. It was originally founded in 1763 by William Charnley, a bookmaker from Newcastle, making handmade paper for the book industry. The mill introduced mechanisation in the 1840s. The company was renamed Fourstones Paper Mill Co. Ltd. in 1907. The company have since expanded and have multiple sites. On the original Fourstones site, the buildings to the east of the mill include a house and adjacent range, which date from the 18th century and are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
